Logo design for 2027

PRESENTING OUR 2027 REUNION LOGO
Every year, we choose a different logo for our Canal Zone Reunion, and this year we chose this beautiful mola design.
The Story
The process started when CZR volunteers in March 2026 started a brainstorming thread. We went through previous logos, including last year’s 5-year seal, and we established one rule: whatever the design was, it had to represent Zonian culture.
Dozens of ideas were proposed, from the cayuco race to the guayacan tree to the harpy eagle, the Isthmus, and even a Charles Lindbergh tribute.
In the final poll, the mola won.

The Mola
Early on we discussed the legal and cultural importance of the mola. Protected under Law 20 of 2000, the mola is more than art, it is indigenous cultural heritage.
For this we entrusted two Guna artists who joined the project. Rosa and Igubdili, worked to create banners and shields for the event. Every curve, every line, every symbol, was elaborated by hand, stitch by stitch.
This collaboration combined our logo with Guna artistry.
To bring the mola into the digital world, we enlisted Dave Young, from BHS Class of 1977, who meticulously scanned and recreated the design, preserving the texture and fabric of the original design.
The Artistry
Dave is a talented artist and teacher who has shared his expertise with over 4000 students over a 40 year career.
We emphasize, that to create a private mola, CZR worked closely with Guna authorities to obtain the proper permissions. The Guna people and the mola are part of the Zonian experience. We thank you for joining us in respecting and honoring our past.
